Seminar on Commodity Derivatives Market by Mr. Satyajit Chattopadhyay
The Finance Forum of N. L. Dalmia Institute of Management Studies and Research organized a knowledge awareness programme on “Commodity Derivatives Market” on 18th July 2016 by keynote speaker Mr. Satyajit Chattopadhyay, AVP – Multi-Commodity Exchange (MCX).
The speaker educated the students on the evolution and development of commodity markets. He emphasized that the most important functions of the commodity derivatives markets were price discovery and price risk management, through hedging. He also described the current commodity market in detail covering areas such as difference between commodities and stock market, number and nature of commodities traded, benefits of trading in commodity derivatives, regulations, risk management practices and factors affecting commodity valuations. He also explained the role played by various market participants such as hedgers, arbitragers and also speculators who assume risks and provide depth and liquidity to the markets. He educated the students in detail about commodity derivatives, the value they add to the Indian commodities market and the role of SEBI as a regulator. He also emphasized that awareness about the functioning of commodity derivative markets is important.
