NLDIMSR’s Mulyankan 2016 – Annual Paper Presentation Competition and Finance Seminar

N.L. Dalmia Institute of Management Studies and Research organized Mulyankan, their flagship event which included an annual national level finance paper presentation on 16th September 2016 followed by seminars by eminent speakers from the financial sector on 17th September 2016. The competition topic for 2016 was “Impact of Brexit on MNC Operations

Day 1: Mulyankan 2016 saw participants from various top B-schools across India. Six teams representing JBIMS, NMIMS, Welingkar, Aditya Institute of Management Studies, Lala Lajpat Rai Institute of Management and NLDIMSR competed to win the esteemed title of Mulyankan 2016.

The presentations of all teams included a brief history of the European Union & Britain, causes and effects of Brexit on England, European Union, world trade and MNCs. Every team had chosen one MNC to be studied in detail with regards to the impact of Brexit on its operations and financials. The teams studied the business model and financials of the chosen MNC and also proposed various strategies to counter the impact of Brexit. The chief guests assessed the performance of each team, asked questions and also suggested areas for improvement.

The panel of honourable judges included Dr. Brinda Jagirdar Retired Economist SBI, Rishi Shah – Economist and Consultant at Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu Services, Inc. and Dr. Meenaxi Dhariwal, Deputy Campus Head & Dean- IBS- Mumbai. They enlightened the participants and the audience with their valuable inputs and also threw light upon various areas of improvement.

The winner of esteemed Mulyankan 2016 trophy was the JBIMS team, followed by NLDIMSR and NMIMS teams at the first and second runner-up position respectively.

17th September 2016: On the second day of N. L. Dalmia Institute of Management Studies and Research organized Mulyankan, erudite personalities from the financial sector discussed the challenges and opportunities post Brexit.

Mr. Anil Talreja – Partner, Deloitte, explained the precursors and constituents of the European Union (EU). He highlighted the implication of UK leaving EU in terms of legal complications, telecom networks, credit ratings, housing prices, the value of the Pound and the impact of all these factors on interest rates and the overall economy.

Mr. Madan Sabnavis – Economist Care Ratings explained the implications of Brexit on India, WTO, Euro currency and EU. He highlighted that the referendum was not a way to solve economic issues. He also discussed how the other member nations may consider exiting EU post Brexit.

Mr. Soumya Kanti Ghosh – Chief Economic Advisor SBI educated the audience about Indian economy – current status & way forward. He emphasized how it is becoming increasingly difficult to predict and understand the global economy post the 2008 crisis. He also highlighted the contrast between economic policies of developing countries vs. the developed countries and presented upon the impact of Brexit.

Dr. Meenaxi Dhariwal – Deputy Campus Head & Dean- IBS- Mumbai presented an overview of increasing globalization and interdependence. She probed if this could be the beginning of an end to globalization. She discussed the American economy and explained the economic cycle of booms and recession.

Uncertainty, complexity and ambiguity are becoming a part of the global economy. Decisions taken by a single country are affecting various other countries and corporations. The world economy is evolving rapidly and the seminars paved a way for the students to understand this evolution.

N. L. Dalmia has shaped my personality in many ways. I learnt the best of HR subjects from amazing faculty members and the overall ecosystem helped me in becoming a better person.

When I entered the industry to start working, I already had a head start in HR concepts, thanks to the specialized HR batch. Additionally, we were provided with well-rounded development through assessment centres, IR case laws, personality development camps, college festivals, national level paper presentations and multiple sessions by industry stalwarts.
